My 2180 fitted with a GPAS supplied 1821 carb with a 52 by 45 pitch prop, revs at max. 2500rpm. static. I reamed out the main jet from 1.3mm to 1.5mm with no increase in rpm. I reamed further to 1.7mm and still no increase in static rpm. Can anyone of the the group advise me as to what I should do to increase the static rpm? and what static rpm. should I be getting Thank you in advance for any advice

Hi ?popshot?, if it is a Sterba prop, the static rpm should be about 3200-3600

I have a Sterba 52x46 prop on the 2180 on my IIL. It statics out at a little more that 3100 rpm, so Juergen is pretty close. The first thing I'd do is verify that your tachometer is reading correctly.

Check your ignition timing too.

My tacho reads 3100 RPM static with a Sterba 54x48 on a 2180, so I guess your suggestion about checking the tacho is something I should heed too... With such a prop, 3100 RPM is likely a bit (too) high? Hans

'04 Aerovee 2180 w/105ttsn....Sterba 54x46 prop = 2950rpm static, 3400rpm at 2000' WOT. Told by Aeroconversions these are optimal numbers.Aeroconversions does have a support group for the Aerovee engine. aerovee@yahoogroups.com ..........FredL

I think i remember reading on the old site that the static rpm's should also be referenced to the manifold pressure to ensure everythings good.
