The question was who can reshape my landing gear. I had a hard landing and now the distance between the tires is wider than it should be. I was hoping to maybe find out the manufacture of the gear to see if they could reshape it. Thanks Dwight ;D

You can bend the gear yourself. The bend angles & sizes are on the Great Plains site. Use a press or take it to a sheet metal shop. You must use a "shoe" with the proper radius. It must be bent cold...DO NOT HEAT the gear. The aluminum is heat treated & heating it will make it lose it's temper. If you are in a cold climate, you can heat to room temperature.... don't use a torch.

On a second thought...
How much is your landing gear splayed? I need the distance at the tip inside to inside.
Every Sonerai I have seen has a splayed landing gear. After mine was fixed...one hard landing & it was spreading again.

Hi guys!
DonĀ“t try to bend those landing gear at cold in your home shop if there is need to significant reshape. All gears bent when these are at low tensile form, then all gears will get proper heat treatment (T6 form) and after that gear get artificial olden by heat again. That take some 5-6 hours.
Bending too hard (T6) aluminum may cause invisible cracks and brittle bend can kill your plane or you and plane too.

You don't have to bend your own gear. You can buy a new one. I am only telling you what we did. Yes...you have to bend at your own risk. There are 4 of us that I know, flying with 5/8" gears that were re bent cold. When we bent mine & another friend's gear, it was in the 40's... so we heated the gear with an air blower/heater till about 90-100 degrees'. Then we bent the gears using a template to check for proper angle. The homemade press we used had a 6" radius shoe. The owner of the press, bent a T6 aluminum 8" wide by 7/8" thick landing gear for his Zenith 601....saving about $800.00 plus freight. He bent his gear from a "straight" piece of 7/8"X8" bar stock. We only bent our gears about 5 degrees "more" You have to take responsibility for your own actions... again, bend at your own risk.

You guys realize that the original post is from 2004 right? I'm sure the original poster has long since replaced or repaired his landing gear.
