Well, I'm still in the process of deciding which plane I'm going to build but either the Sonerai or Sonex are looking to be the most affordable. Sonerai seems to be still sporty but half the cost of the Sonex.
I have read all the discussions about Sonerai's being/not being LSA and have to kind of laugh. I'm currently renting aircraft from a dealer. None of the same make, model aircraft fly like each other. They are all well made German aircraft and all of them look beautiful but no two of them fly alike! Some stall at higher speeds, others break harder to the left in a power on stall. Three of them are literally one after the other in serial numbers and they are the most different from each other.
So, my point and worthless two cents are directly from the DAR I know, the specs aren't perfect and we ain't God! So, if its close and most importantly safe, its LSA in the view of the FAA.
Also, remember what John Monnett says, the LSA specs are for SEA LEVEL. All of his new designs are well in excess of the specs at 2000 MSL.
I just don't get how they test at sea level. Sounds rather wet to me ;-)

In my humble opinion, the Sonerai is way prettier than the Sonex.
