I've just ordered the plans for the Sonerai II S, I should have them later next week. However, I wanted to start to price the material so I could order in the next few weeks. Through the sonerai.net archives I was able to find a materials list, although it didn't list any aluminum sheet. Ultimately I would prefer to order the majority of the material now to save on freight in the long run.
At minimum I know the wings are aluminum and possibly some paneling. If anyone has this info or an approximate number/thickness of aluminum please let me know.
Also, based on what I've read 2024-T3 has been primarily used, has anyone used 6061-T6 (more of the modern designs seem to be going to that over the 2024-T3).
Thanks

6061 T6 is not that strong as 2024 T3...so do not use it. Use only what plans request for your safety...
6061 T6 tensile strength is approx 300 Mpa while 2024 T3 is 400-425 Mpa....so there is big difference for those two alloys.

Okay thanks, I just wanted to check.
If anyone knows of the approximate number of sheets of Al 2024 and thickness for the sonerai II S please post.
I did read somewhere .025 and .04 were the only sizes used, just wanted to know the size and qty.

I supply a complete list of materials to build the wings in the Wing Construction Manual that comes with the plans.

beakon20, The list in the plans does not seem to include all the materials. Fred's list is indeed complete, but it lists the parts in their final size, so you have to calculate how many pieces you can cut out of each sheet. I attempted to plan it out, so, for what its worth, here it is:
4ea 4'x12' .025 2024T3 sheet - wing skins and ribs 1ea 2'x2' .025 2024T3 sheet -reinforcing part and stiffeners 8' 1"x1"x1/8" 6061T6- reinforcing angle 7' 1-1/4"x1-1/4"x .125" 6061T6-main spar cap angle 1ea 4'x8' .020 2024T3 sheet- turtle deck also 1ea 2'x2' .125 2024T3 sheet - spar box I plan to buy the spar channels and spar cap strips from GPASC, due to cost.
Be advised that I made no allowance for waste and I have not started cutting yet, so this may turn out to be inaccurate! Scott

Thanks, I probably will not commit to ordering any material until I get the plans. Just wanted to have an idea so I could price material and shipping.
