Hi, I'm considering buying or maybe even building a Sonerai II. Is there anyone around the Madison area that would be willing to let me sit in their plane? I'm looking for something that both my son and I can fly in, we're both about the same size, 5'-6" and 130 pounds. Would we need the stretch or the original? I've seen a couple originals for sale, but so far the stretch seems to be harder to find.
Thanks, Todd

Todd: I keep my IIL at the Burlington airport (BUU). Not exactly in the Madison area, but you're more than welcome to come and have a sit (or maybe I could bring it to you).

Burlington is only 2 hours from me, that would be great. What days do you hang around the airport?

I'm usually there on Saturdays and Sundays, in the morning, but I can be there most any time of the day. Email me at fredkeip@aol.com to set something up.

Todd,
There are a few sonerai IIL for sale on barnstormers right now. There is 2 mostly built kits one II and one IIL, as well as, a finished IIL with a continental. Although i think this is the 3rd time the IIL w/ continental has been for sale this year so makes me a bit cautious.

There are also airframes and wings for sale on this site as well. Some look like extremely good deals. -Pete

Thanks, I'm looking at the one in IL. It's the only stretch project that I've seen so far and as far as I can tell it's a decent price, $5,000 with engine prop and basic instruments. If everything works out I'll be driving down this week to pick it up

Todd,
I live in Janesville, WI and am planning on building a Sonerai. Right now I am doing research and trying to decide on my specific configuration and in the mean time, I am putting together a workshop for this project. Keep in touch and let me know how things are progressing for you.

Up until recently I have felt reluctant to post. I have been a member of sonerai.net (although I never posted there) gathering information for myself for the last two years or so. I have finally decided after much bouncing around and thought that a Sonerai is the right A/C for me. I am also located in WI, near Oshkosh and have purchased plans for a 2LS. At the moment I am working overseas but am looking forward to getting home in Jan or Feb and starting my project, I work as an A&P mechanic by trade. Sonerai.net along with the Sonerai Newsletters have up until now have kept me busy with reading material but this forum seems to move much slower than sonerai.net and with all of the newsletters read up I am starting to get bored stuck in Belgium! Anyway I just saw this post and wanted to add if you are planning on building a Sonerai the newsletters are worth the cost there are some really helpful articles on fuselage and wing construction along with a bunch of other odds and ends. I read in there somewhere a guy using bicycle brakes, although it sounds interesting and great way to save weight I still don't know how I feel about that! Anyway I just saw you other Wisconsin builders and thought it was a good time to chime in it would be nice to know someone else going through this as well.

Hi Max, I think I will be building a 2LS also. Will not be putting bicycle brakes on it though! lol. I have bicycle brakes on my plane now and they are about useless. Ok for ultralights, but that's about it. Send me an email sometime (in my profile) and we can keep in touch. Would love to pick your brain sometime since you seem to have all the book work done. I'm just starting.

As of now my return flight is booked at the very end of Jan but I might end up home a few weeks before that. I really wanted to see a 2L just to see if it would be big enough before I start building a stretch. Its nice to know there is someone so close I actually live between New London and Waupaca.
