Hi group, before committing to my Sonerai II last June, this was my previous project: ibis.experimentals.deSeeing what I had achieved over the years, extrapolating into the future and then some soul searching made me realize that I really prefer to fly NOW rather than to keep dreaming about a plane that might be finished by the time I can't fly it anymore... I sold this project and found my current S-II shortly after. cheers Hans

Bravo Hans! This is a very nice builder's site, well organized and nicely illustrated.

Hans,
I feel your pain. I have an empanage and one almost completed wing to an RV-6A hanging on the wall. I started in that project '95, then had to box it up for 10 years whilst moving about the country. I finally uncrated it about 6 months ago for the first time since then. I can see my workmanship was pretty good (better than I remembered!), but the cost and time to finish it is just too much, given all that has happened to the (and my) economy. So I am going to build a S-IILS instead. I can complete it for not a lot more $$$ than the remaining RV kits, and with the aluminum skills I learned back then, and the metal tools I acquired, will make my build go a lot faster than it might otherwise.
I still can't bring myself to sell the 6A though. Maybe after I have something resembling an airplane sitting in the garage and need a few $grand$ to complete the Sonerai I will be able to do it.
I plan to start the Sonerai over the holidays after I complete a big honey-do project and finish the garage shop wiring upgrade.

Hans you made the right decision... flying now is the way to go... when we get older,we may not be able to fly but we will have plenty of air time to remember,if our memory is not gone flying yet ...

Hi Guys, thanks for the heads up, I really appreciate it. And you know what? I still want to build a plane - or perhaps I only want to have built one? That's two different things. No matter what, I can fly now and perhaps I will become a rivet banger later on in life... If I only knew how to weld decently... cheers Hans

Hans, you can learn how to weld. I did it - and if I can do it, so can you. All it takes is practice, trial and error, a little study and research. Not real difficult, and it will provide a great sense of accomplishment. I would encourage you to learn it when you can. Gas welding is great fun.
