does any body have a decent list as to what lengths of tubing i should order to reduce waste as much as possible?
i have the total quantities to order from the plans but i don't want to order all 8 foot lengths if there is a better way.

I ordered all my steel at once, using the Bill of Materials list for my IIL and it came out just about perfect. I was short about 5' of 1/2" .035" and over on 3/4" (I think, it is stashed in the rafters for future use.) The one glaring mistake is the .090" sheet. I bet you could get what you need REAL cheap by asking this list. I have an uncut 6'x 36" and most of another 36" piece. (Keeping this, again for future use). If you are able to order all your steel at once, you may want to consider looking into Dillenbergs (sp?) in PA. You will round up to whole 20' sticks, but you get a good discount. There were a few lengths I ordered to the BoM. I paid $1150 with freight in Oct '06. I priced out the BoM from him, Aircraft Spruce, Airparts and Wicks. He was the cheapest followed by Airparts. Beware, if the old man is still working, he can be grumpy. It is best if you are prepared and simply tell him your needs, not ask questions.
If you want to come up and take a look see of a IIL one wing done starting to skin the second and fuselage just about ready to cover, I am in Lander, WY. Denver is just a short drive by WY standards. Our local EAA is also have our annual fly-in next weekend- 9/10/11. Feel free to email me, I am at this same user name @msn.com. I have my invoice and can get Dillenburgs number from it- they are not on the web at all. Scott R

A Lancair would make short work of Denver to Hunt Field. There is a strong possibility that the IISL from Graybull will be at the Fly-in. Very nice machine, it has a Continental A-80 with side controls to lower the seat and the turtle deck. As for the steel, I gave him my total length required, and Charles rounded up to the next full length at whole stick pricing. The company is Dillsburg Aeroplane Works, 114 Sawmill Rd Dillsburg, PA 17019, 717.432.4589. Oh, the photo gallery, how I miss the photo gallery. Any question about construction could be answered by a thousand pictures. Scott R
