One of the reasons I never finished my series how I made my wingtips is that there were a few better ways of doing things. I am now trying to get my Cassutt done. The project had the typical rounded "sonerai" style tips made from balsa. I wanted a more efficient tip, especially when the aircraft slows down for landing. As I did on the Sonerai tips, I used a hot-wire and foam to create the shape. The tips on the Sonerai are squared off, meaning that their span is constant other than the front of the tip. The ones I am making for the Cassutt are not. Their span is about 2" at the front and 10.73" at the trailing edge. Attached are pictures of the rough cut. I am considering presenting a 1 hour webcast while I cut the one for the other wing. It would be live video in real time and it would allow two way conversation for questions. Is anyone interested is seeing how to make tips? Side view Bottom view Top view

Definitely interested. I'm still working on the fuselage, but am interested to see how you make the foam blocks for the modified tips. Are Cassutt tips going to be Hoerner-style tips as well?

They are, but the techniques can be used to make many different shapes.

Oh, please, please, please record it as well for posterity! I won't be ready to do wing tips for (probably) years, but I would certainly want to review the video when the time is right.
If I can, I'll want to see the real-time presentation as well.

I will schedule it for sometime during the first week of January. Do any days work better than others? I was thinking I could do it at 6pm Central.

Hans, where do you live in Deutschland? I should be there at least twice this year.
